F-1 student visa: I-20, DS-160, and the document packet

The school issues Form I-20 after admission. SEVIS is the government record attached to that I-20. DS-160 is the online visa application. The interview is at a U.S. consulate. DOCROOM does not admit you to a school and does not decide the visa. We organize the papers that go with I-20 and DS-160.

What the F-1 packet usually includes

A valid passport; Form I-20 signed by the school and the student; proof the I-901 SEVIS fee was paid; the DS-160 confirmation page; the visa appointment confirmation; academic transcripts, diplomas, and test scores; a financial packet (bank statements, sponsor letter, affidavit of support where used); and certified English translations of any foreign record.

Names and dates of birth must match across the passport, the I-20, the DS-160, and the diplomas. A transliteration that does not match the machine-readable passport line is a consular delay, not a style choice.
